Anticipation - Road Trip

Are we there yet?

When I was a little girl we moved from California where I was born, far away from all cousins, aunts and uncles, to Texas.  Every so often, Dad would fry up chicken, he and mom would make great preparations and the next morning, off we would head to the beaches of Galveston.   Those trips to the ocean seemed to take forever. “Are we there yet?  Are we almost there?  How much further?” Were the questions that resounded over and over until someone would shout, “I see the water!” And we’d all shriek with excitement and anticipation of the happy day that we would enjoy.

My mother taught me to look for a particular plant that grows near the ocean.  “When you see it, then you know we are very close to the water,” she’d tell me.  Oh, how I scoured the side of the road for that plant, no doubt, miles before it was present.

The grand daddy of all trips was when Dad would announce, “We’re going to California.” The anticipation of reconnecting with the family and all that we held dear was almost more than we could take.  But oh, how the road went on and on in those long road trips that took days.  And oh the joy at the end of our journey reunited once again with our dear family.

The road we find ourselves on can sometimes seem never ending.  Oft times the adventure we anticipate seems to turn to an endless array of

houses and people, towns and cities that we pass through along the way.  The view can seem monotonous.

Job 23:10 says, “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold”

When you walk with God, there will never be a journey that you are on where He does not see you.  He knows exactly where you are.

Ps. 37:23 NLT tells us, “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.”

How blessed we are to be guided by such a Savior.   He choses to take us down pathways that will grow us into the child of God that He desires us to be.

Lets sit back and enjoy the journey!
